Philosophy

When the shutter closes, the process of capturing a pattern of light that will form the image has finished. The moment has passed irrevocably. It now exists only as a latent image on film, as an instant in time and space held by tiny silver halide crystals. Thus begins the extensive process of reincarnating this moment. The fine art print is the conclusive step of shaping the pre-visualised image, when vivid blacks, subtle shades of grey and luminous highlights mingle with the surface of the paper to once again revive the captured moment. To me, this is the ultimate form to experience the depth, texture and light of the photograph in the hope it will convey the same feelings and emotions I had when I captured it.

Fine Art Prints

Matted print

The majority of photographs on this site were captured on film. All prints are custom made using archival materials and processes to ensure the highest degree of quality and longevity. Images are printed with carbon pigment Ultrachrome K3 inks on either Canson® Platine Fibre Rag, Canson® Edition Etching Rag or Awagami Washi paper.

Canson is one of the oldest paper manufacturers in the world, having produced paper for almost 500 years and has supplied the photographic industry since its very beginnings. Platine Fibre Rag is a satin paper with a luxurious sheen while Edition Etching Rag is a matte paper with a smooth texture. Both are cotton rag papers produced to museum grade standards without any Optical Brightening Agents (OBA).

Awagami Washi paper is produced in Yamakawa-cho of the Tokushima region in Japan and has a history of over 1400 years. This is traditional Japanese paper produced to archival standards from the fibers of the mulberry (Kozo), the mitsumata shrub or gampi tree, although other plants are used as well. Prints on Awagami papers afford a wonderful, natural presence with a very unique aesthetic.

Editioning

All prints are available as limited editions (plus three artist proofs). Edition prices are tiered and will rise as the edition progresses. Once an edition reaches its limit, the negative will be retired and no further prints will be produced.

I love the intricacy and intimacy of the small print which is reflected in the sizes of the prints I produce. Generally, I produce prints in three sizes, either as loose prints or mounted and matted. All prints are hand signed on recto including the edition number. Images from some bodies of work are only available in certain sizes (please enquire) but are always printed on the same, high-quality archival paper chosen by the artist. Every print is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
